BASIC BJD INFORMATION & EXPLANATION
My basic BJD’s are sold as true basics without face ups or eyes, just the doll itself. This is a high quality resin ball jointed doll with 17 points of articulation which stands and balances well on it’s own to pose many and varied ways for realistic body language and without a stand. There is a whole hobby collector market where people are painting and completing their own dolls from others sculpts. I love to be part of someone’s personal artistic adventure so I keep my basic BJD’s priced as low as I possibly can. I also want to make sure that anyone who really wants one of my dolls can afford one in some form. There are artist’s who will paint and or clothe a basic sculpt for you fairly reasonably. Two I know of who do a great job are Michele Hardy and Charie Wilson. Both can be found by googling them online.
I am finding as I gain notice and my dolls are becoming more popular with collectors that my completed dolls sell faster than I can keep up with completing them while also sculpting new dolls as the ones I have sell out. I am considering offering factory face ups on some dolls which will be very reasonable. But I am also continuing to offer Artist face ups as I find time to fit doing them in. Just contact me if you are interested. I am so grateful to my collectors and will continue to look for ways to meet their demands and desires as I work through these artist’s growing pains. Including selling true basic BJD’s because as busy as I am, I can always ship a basic as long as I have one in stock anyway. This further highlights the need for me to continue to make time to sculpt new dolls.
Frankly my basic BJD prices are AMAZING in spite of the fact that my doll’s overall balance, resin, and quality is literally comparable to the best available today. I just love art myself and want to be a part of helping those who are creative and artistic create their own dolls even if they don’t sculpt. I am paying the same prices to the factory as everyone else, just shaving the bottom line and not really charging what I should for all my own time and effort in to sculpt, cast a prototype and work with the factory. I believe in doing everything in my power to help fellow artists and encourage collector creativity. That’s the simple truth, and those who have already ordered my dolls know this. If you are reading this and are a fellow artist or a creative collector (where most of us artists started) - I encourage you to try your hand at using one of my basic dolls to create your own original!

Bo Bergemann

BASIC PHOTOS & POSING
YOSD BJD, Tiny BJD & Sugar Babies shown nude in Pink Sugar resin color below. These 3 dolls are Basics with artist face up’s by me. If you order a true basic it comes unpainted ready for you to paint or have a BJD Artist do so. You can also purchase an Artist Face up from me for $110. But please contact me first as I am finding I have less and less time to do these. Though I love to and am happy to do so. Just use the contact form to let me know what you would like and I can respond letting you know what my schedule looks like and when/if I can fit your order in sometime soon.

MSD sized BJD Ambriel as a true basic in Shimmer resin color.

No Stands, no propping, just good engineering and balance!

Ambriel is quite a talented young lady compared to most other bjd’s out there!

As if all this wasn’t enough, she can even stand on her head!

Now, I just need to figure out how to teach her to do my laundry!
Resin Colors
Brown Sugar - Pink Sugar - Shimmer

I have experimented with trying many resin colors over my first year in business. And I’ve settled on some favorites that my future dolls will be most likely to be available in.
Brown Sugar is my deep rich resin tone which mimics polynesian skin tones, AA skin tones, mixed ethnic skin tones and a beautiful natural or spray tan. I matched this color to my son’s thumb. He is Samoan German Irish. It has a slight translucence like real skin.
Pink Sugar is skin tone I matched to my own thumb. I am a rare bird in Hawaii in that I am truly fair skinned. As in I don’t even tan. I did as a child but think I must have used up all my allotment of melatonin. JK as my teen-aged sons would say. This resin tone represents very fair skin tones well. It makes for great fair princesses and fairies or modern fair skinned people like myself. it also has a slight translucence like real skin.
Shimmer is a medium fair skin tone that is truly opaque. I specifically developed this color to be a beautiful fair to medium skin tone. You can blush this color lighter or darker to mimic very fair, medium or even a bit darker skin tones well. It does not have any translucence like my two other colors but rather mimics a porcelain finish adding a sense of elegance and surrealism to the finished doll rather than the more realistic effects of the other two.
My background as a doll maker is in realism which is why I LOVE the first two of my resin colors I’ve settled on as favorites. But I am finding that I absolutely adore this newest addition to my beloved resin color palette precisely because of the different effects I can achieve with this one. The dolls in this resin look elegant and priceless like fine art sculpture or high quality vintage and antique dolls.
Other colors I have used previously and still may from time to time are my White Sugar (a true white resin doll with the slightest translucence to help flesh out fairies, clowns and magical creations well.) My Cane Sugar resin is very similar to Island Dolls Island resin or Kim Lasher’s usual fair skin resin or DollsTown Paleskin. It is the closest to many companies Normal, though less yellow. My Maple Sugar resin is a more medium tone great for Hispanic or Italian or Mediteranean or South American fair to medium skin tones. I like it as a “beauty” skin tone but do not use it often now because my Shimmer is actually this “beauty” medium fair skin tone with a touch of rose added in to make it an even more beautiful tone in my opinion. So I tend toward using my Shimmer resin color instead. I have used a Vanilla Sugar color in the past and still have Sugar Babies in this color. It is like a milky white flesh tone, very pale but not quite true white. From time to time I will offer dolls in any or all of these colors and/or may create new ones as I find the need.

Bo Bergemann

This is a collectible resin ball jointed doll or artist bjd website showcasing Bo Bergemann original ball jointed dolls. These are first and foremost heirloom quality original artist collectible dolls for the discerning collector. My personal aesthetic preferences in collectible dolls lean toward beauty and grace as well as playful fun in all their forms. So my resin ball jointed dolls tend to be beautiful sweet vintage style or modern fun spirited adorable babies, children and young adult dolls. BJD stands for ball jointed doll. My bjd's meet all the generally accepted bjd standards being made of resin, original sculpts by me, artist Bo Bergemann, and have 14 -17 joints, standing and holding poses well on their own. They also have removable head pates to exchange eyes and wear wigs as required to be a bjd. My ball jointed dolls can be compared to Kaye Wiggs, Fairyland bjds, Soom bjds, Iplehouse bjds, and many other quality abjd style ball jointed dolls. All my ball jointed dolls are original sculptures, molded in silicon and then cast in the finest quality bjd resin. I began with tiny bjd's and have moved into YOSD bjd's and now MSD bjd's. I noticed ball jointed dolls or bjd's online looking at and enjoying the work of Kaye Wiggs, Dollstown, Fairyland, Soom, and Iplehouse who all make and sell fabulous bjd's. Original ball jointed dolls were created in Europe centuries ago. Then brought to Asia, where they were copied and improved upon to become what modern bjd's are today. There is a long and complex history behind this type of modern ball jointed doll that I only discovered a few years ago, and many of my bjd and heirloom doll collectors are only just discovering now. However, like many of my collectors, I also love Kish, Effner, Plusczok, and Himstedt and Zaweiryuzynski dolls among others which are not bjd's. I am attracted to their beautiful faces and heirloom quality! My goal is to create both beautiful heirloom quality dolls and modern bjd's in one. When I realized this, l had been sculpting dolls for 13 years at that point in time. My excitement over the possibilities for creating realistic body language through ball and socket jointing in dolls, lead me to beginning the long and arduous 2+ year process of learning to sculpt, mold and cast my own bjd's. I love the possibilities for body language and posing inherent in the bjd body type that is not available in any other kind of collectible doll body. I moved into learning to sculpt, mold and cast a resin bjd in 2008, continued through 2009, and launched my new collectible bjd resin ball jointed doll company in Oct of 2010. It took me two and a half years to learn and incorporate all the complex demands of making a true quality abjd style collectible resin ball jointed doll. I was challenged to the point of choosing to either give up, or persevere and make this my full time job! The latter won out and I am enjoying great acceptance from my collectors who are a fast growing crowd of both heirloom collectible doll lovers and bjd artists and collectors. I do so appreciate all the support and encouragement each has offered me in this journey. And for my collectors list who has followed me and grown from my earliest days of offering hand sculpted original life sized babies, through my miniature doll making phase, and now into being a collectible ball jointed doll artist - THANK YOU! I am a doll maker and I believe strongly in doing my best in excellence in all I do. So, when looking for the best body type to make little girls - I discovered bjd's! I have had to research and learned mostly via trial and error the hard way. But I have also recently enjoyed the blessing of having asked wonderful mentors like Kaye Wiggs and Joe McPhale many questions seeking to improve my processes. And each step of the way, I am convinced again that modern bjd's provide the best possible doll body types if your goals are realistic body language, many posing possibilities and getting your dolls to stand on their own. These were my original goals and have blossomed into being my ongoing pursuits as I make the next doll, and the next! All the while, pursuing the main goal of making truly heirloom quality original collectible artist dolls for the discerning collector! Dolls with both fabulous bjd bodies AND beautiful faces & costuming, like so many other modern and antique dolls!
